The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have found the coach they think will take their offense to new heights in the 2026 season.
He is no stranger to Buccaneer fans and has stood on the opposing sideline the last two years, directing the offense for Raheem Morris in Atlanta.
Morris and the entire Atlanta coaching staff were fired after their final game of the season, making Robinson available.
The former OC was introduced to the media on Tuesday, and he will be the man calling the offensive plays for the Buccaneers next season.
Robinson, a former protege of Rams HC Sean McVay, coached with McVay in LA from 2019-2023, before leaving to take the OC position in Atlanta.
Robinson spent time as an assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant wide receivers coach with the Rams before becoming the Rams’ pass game coordinator in 2023, when Mayfield signed with the Rams late in the season.
Robinson said that Baker Mayfield was a huge factor in coming to Tampa to join the Buccaneers. “Sure, it’s a big deal. Obviously, that time that we spent together was invaluable during a tough season where he came in and ignited that group. I’m fired up to work with Bake and the rest of the guys. It’s a good group of dudes, and I’m looking forward to it, for sure.”
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Robinson is one of the brightest young minds in football.
“We are excited to welcome Zac Robinson as our next offensive coordinator. Zac is one of the bright offensive minds in our game, and during the interview process, I was very impressed with his plan for getting the most out of the talent we have on that side of the ball. He has a very good understanding of the strengths of our top offensive players from his time in the division the past two years, and I am very confident in his ability to teach and develop our young players.”
The Buccaneers had an 8-9 record this past season and regressed offensively, dropping to No.21 in total offense from No. 3 in 2024.
The Buccaneers also saw their point production drop from 28.6 points in 2024 to 21.4 in 2025.
Robinson is the fifth offensive coordinator in five seasons and the fourth different coordinator for Baker Mayfield, who enters his fourth season with the Buccaneers.
In 2025, the Falcons’ offense ranked 14th in total offense and 24th in scoring offense.
Offensively, Robinson has been a proponent of the pistol formation, in which the quarterback is lined up four yards behind the center and the running back is lined up directly behind the quarterback.
The big negative of Robinson is his predictability.
When in the shotgun, the Falcons passed on 87 percent of the plays. When the QB was under center, a run play ensued 75 percent of the time.
The Falcons were also very poor on third downs, finishing 30th in the league in third-down conversion percentage.
When healthy, the Buccaneer offense is one of the top offenses in the NFL.
The Bucs are counting on having a prolific offense next season with Chris Godwin, Emeka Ebuka, Bucky Irving, and Baker Mayfield all returning healthy.
Mike Evans is the wild card in all of this. He can return to the Bucs, leave in free agency, or retire.
Robinson summed up his feelings about the offensive talent in Tampa. “I didn’t need to be sold on anything for this job. I was excited for this job as soon as it became available. I was hoping that I would get an opportunity to be here.”
This week was just an introduction to the Tampa media; now the real work begins to get this offense back where it belongs, among the top echelon of offenses in the NFL.
